A new report from the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI) says that Columbia edged out Brazil as the foreign country with most online searches for South Florida real estate in December 2015. The statistic is based on searches performed on the MIAMI search portal (Miamire.com).
The top 10 countries visiting Miamire.com in December 2015: were:
- Colombia
- Brazil
- Venezuela
- Argentina
- Philippines
- India
- Spain
- Canada
- France
- Puerto Rico
Previously, Brazil dominated as the top foreign nation using the search portal to search for South Florida real estate. In fact, since June 2014, the only times the country didn’t top the list was in May 2014, July 2015 and December 2015.
Columbians are not just searching for Miami real estate; they’re purchasing properties here.
In the same press release, MIAMI reported that Columbian homebuyers registered 10 percent of all foreign Miami transactions in 2015. The only countries to purchase more were Venezuela and Brazil.
“Colombian home buyers have long sought South Florida real estate,” said Mark Sadek, the 2016 MIAMI Chairman of the Board. “Miami’s tropical climate, global business center, world-class shopping and history of multiculturalism are just a few reasons why Colombians and all international home buyers continue buying local properties.”
In a 2015 survey, Columbians were found to spend the second most on South Florida properties among foreign buyers with an average purchase price of $516,000. Brazil topped the list spending an average of $766,000 on property purchases.
