A new Harris Poll has determined that Florida is the most desired state in which people want to live.
The Poll surveyed 2,232 adults online between November 11 to 16, 2015. The respondents were asked to choose states and cities in which they don’t currently live in. Florida ranked number one in the most desirable state category. California placed second followed by Hawaii, Colorado and New York. Florida last topped the list in 2001.
As for the most desirable cities, Miami ranked fifth behind New York, San Diego, Denver and Los Angeles.
Florida is popular with residents of all ages
Florida is a sought after destination for both baby boomers and millennials. A quarter of residents are of retirement age, which will continue to increase. According to the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research, “By 2030, about 26 percent of Floridians will be age 65 or older, up from 17 percent in 2010.”
But, that doesn’t mean that the Sunshine State is only popular with retirees. There are 142 colleges in Florida making significant impact in the demographic face of the population.
Sand shovels beat shoveling snow
Florida is a snowbird destination and is coveted by those who are dreaming of beach days in the winter. More than 22,000 New Yorkers move here every year, with thousands of others visiting from every part of the world.
Regardless of the city, the state’s warm climate and diversity offer something for anyone looking to break away from chilly winters and snow storms. Given that, it’s no surprise that Florida ranked at the top of the Harris Poll for the most desirable state to live in.
